This can be Caused by your Thermostat:

Solution:

  • Make sure your thermostat is turned On
  • Set 3 degrees below room temperature
  • Turn Cool, not fan or heat

If the thermostat screen is blank, then the battery is dead. Replace the battery.

Here’s what to do:

  • Find your breaker box and look for the circuit labeled “air conditioner”
  • Try flipping that circuit to “off” and then “on”
  • Give your air conditioner a couple minutes and see if it comes on now

Make sure power is getting to the furnace

Try this:

  • Check your home’s electrical panel. Flip the furnace’s circuit to “off” and then “on” again.
  • Look for a switch (like a light switch) near your furnace and make sure it is set to "on".

Your heat pump’s circuit breaker may have been tripped.

Here’s what to do:

  • Find your breaker box and look for the circuit labeled “heat pump” or “air conditioner”.
  • Try flipping that circuit to “off” and then “on”.
  • Give your heat pump a couple minutes and see if it comes on now.

Note: If your heat pump is regularly tripping your circuit breaker, contact us immediately as there is a larger problem.

This is your heat pump's normal defrost mode.

What type of smell?
Did you just turn your heater on for the first time this winter?

This is likely normal.

The smell should go away in a few minutes.

There could be a dangerous gas leak in your home. Turn off your furnace immediately and contact a heating repair person.

You need your regular maintenance

This is usually caused by a dirty coil and/or lack of regular maintenance on your heater.

  • This was my first time contacting Morrison Heating Cooling and when I arrived home to find that our heat was off and it was very cold, I called the number of different businesses. Very few companies even returned my call, let alone acted like they cared that we didnt have any heat on a very cold day. Todd assured me that his employee Scott would be out first thing in the a.m. the next day to figure out the problem. Scott was on-time and in fact was a bit early! He immediately assessed what the problem was (replaced the thermostat), replaced our furnace filter and even took the time to program it for us. Scott was completely nonplussed about our three dogs who were quite excited and barking when he entered the house. The dogs immediately calmed down realizing he was calm and non-threatening. I even asked him about our non-functioning bathroom exhaust fan as well and he said that hed be happy to replace that for us too at a later date. This company really takes the time to make sure that they do the job right using the correct parts with quality workmanship. Their prices are competitive, they are very professional and patient and I HIGHLY recommend them for repairs or servicing of your heating and cooling equipment. GREAT PEOPLE!!!!!!

  • I just wanted to thank you both again for scheduling someone to come out and service our furnace. Oren was awesome! He made a diagnosis quickly and was very thorough. Besides being very polite, he explained what he was doing to me, every step along the way. He was able to figure out the issue, which the Oregon Heating guy was unable to figure out after 2 visits, and stayed long enough to make sure everything was working properly. He even checked to make sure the rest of the system was configured properly and working fine (drain system for condensation in the furnace). He diagnosed the leaking/water issue as well as the wet pressure switch issue.
